The birth card for May 17 is the Two of Diamonds
Diamonds is the suit of money and values, so your deepest lessons arrive through what you earn, spend and value, including what you believe you are worth.
As a Two, you do your best work beside someone, and can lose track of which opinions were yours. The card dares you to say what you want out loud, even inside a close partnership.
At work you do well in a close team or a real two-person partnership, where your reading of people is half the job.
In love you give a great deal, and each time you say “I don’t mind” your partner gets less of the real you.
The Sun is in Taurus in both zodiacs
On May 17 the Sun is in Taurus whether you read the tropical zodiac, which follows the seasons, or the sidereal zodiac, which follows the constellations.
Sun in Taurus: Your identity rests on what is real: what you can touch, hold and prove. That is your strength, and it can become your trap when you keep holding what is solid after it has stopped being true.
Around the change of sign, the exact day shifts by year. Your chart settles it.
The Sun is in Gate 8, Contribution
In Human Design and Gene Keys, the Sun on May 17 is in Gate 8: your Personality Sun, and the key at the centre of your Life’s Work. Contribution and the gift of supporting structures.
As Gene Key 8, it runs from the Shadow of Mediocrity, through the Gift of Style, to the Siddhi of Exquisiteness.
Gates change every five or six days, so near the edges your Sun may sit in the gate next door. Your chart shows the line too.
Your birthday number is 17, which reduces to 8
The birthday number is a specific talent carried in the day you arrived: the day of the month, 17, read on its own and as 8.
8, The Executive: Power in the material world. Eight is not greed; it is mastery of resources, money and authority, and the balance between ambition and integrity.
You are here to handle money, power and large responsibility well. The work is running things without needing to run the people too.
Read together, these say more than any one alone
A birthday fixes your birth card, your Sun sign and your Sun gate. The year, the time and the place fill in the rest: the Life Path number, the rising sign and the whole Human Design chart. We read them together, each one a lens on you. That’s where a birthday starts sounding like a person.
