The traditions · Elemental

Every chart leans toward some elements and away from others.

The elemental view sorts your birth chart into fire, earth, air and water, so you can see what you’ve got plenty of and what’s running low.

It shows how those elements are represented in your map, and where the emphasis changes between views.

The balance is calculated across the whole chart, not from a single placement, so it sometimes differs from what you have been told before.

What it calculates

  • How much fire, earth, air and water is in your chart
  • Strongly and lightly represented elements
  • Cardinal, fixed and mutable signs (starters, keepers and adapters)
  • Where your planets bunch up
  • Comparisons between supported zodiac views

What it brings to your Manual

Elemental balance gives the rest of your map its texture. It’s part of why two similar charts can read quite differently.

  • HEALTH & FORTUNE: Your mix of elements, and what each one brings.
  • FAMILY & COMMUNITY: Which elements you’ve got plenty of, and which are barely there.
  • RELATIONSHIPS & PARTNERSHIPS: A light element, and what it says about who you’re drawn to.

Four qualities, and you carry all of them.

Fire: initiative, enthusiasm and the impulse to act.

Earth: practicality, steadiness and attention to what can be built or maintained.

Air: ideas, communication and the exchange of perspectives.

Water: feeling, sensitivity and emotional connection.

A light element is a question, not a missing piece.

A lightly represented element gives you something to explore, not a missing piece of yourself. You may know its qualities well through your work, your relationships or your habits, even when the chart gives it little emphasis.

The proportions describe a calculation. Your experience adds the context.
