The traditions · Polarity
Some moments need you to go first. Others go better if you wait.
The polarity view shows whether your chart leans toward going first or waiting to respond.
It gives you a way to reflect on initiating, waiting, responding and accepting support.
It is the simplest view in the map, and often the one people find useful first.
What it calculates
- The active and receptive emphasis shown in your chart
- Differences between the supported views
- How we connect it to the rest of your reading
What it brings to your Manual
Polarity gives the rest of your map a way to talk about pace: whether you do better moving first, or answering what shows up.
- RELATIONSHIPS & PARTNERSHIPS: How you meet someone, and whether you tend to make the first move.
- CAREER & INDIVIDUALITY: Whether a path is described as one you build, or one you answer.
- FAME & REPUTATION: Whether attention is something you go after, or something that finds you.
The question is always about a real decision.
Think of a recent decision. Did you need to act quickly, wait for more information, talk it through, or let someone else take the lead?
The reading can help you ask these questions more deliberately. Your circumstances still matter, and you have access to more than one way of responding.
Active and receptive are qualities, not roles.
Here, active and receptive describe symbolic qualities. They do not assign roles by gender, and they do not decide which behaviour is right for you.
Neither one is better than the other, and neither is a fixed instruction.
When the views disagree, the reading holds both.
Sometimes one view reads as more active and another as more receptive. Your reading treats that as one theme, not two contradictory facts.
That comparison is Soul Cartography's own. A difference between views is a prompt to reflect, not a problem to correct.
