Gate 7 and Gene Key 7: The Role of the Self
Gate 7 is the Role of the Self, a gate in the G centre on the Collective circuit. As Gene Key 7, it runs from the Shadow of Division, through the Gift of Guidance, to the Siddhi of Virtue. It is Hexagram 7 of the I Ching. The Sun passes through it each year from about August 3 to August 8.

Gate 7 is about the role and the way we organize and lead collectives
In Human Design, Gate 7 sits in the G centre, in the Logic stream of the Collective circuit. Collective circuitry carries sharing. Whatever it produces is meant to be usable by people who were not there, which is why it works through pattern, logic and story.
Lived consciously: Natural leadership that organizes people toward shared purpose. Authority comes from presence and vision. The person creates structure that allows others to thrive.
Lived unconsciously: Dominating or controlling others. Leadership that serves the leader's ego rather than the group. Structure becomes oppressive.

Gene Key 7 moves from Division to Virtue
The question this key keeps asking: “Who is on my side? Who should be leading here? Why is nobody doing it right?”
The Shadow, Division. You read a group in seconds: who is with you, who is not, who is doing it wrong. So you pick a side, or quietly run things from the edge while resenting whoever stands in front. People feel sorted into teams. You become the critic or the one carrying everything, and neither is leading.
The Gift, Guidance. The way through is to guide by going first and letting people watch. Back the right person, make the quiet decision, show the better way instead of arguing for it. That is Guidance: often from the side of the stage, and more effective than it looks.
The Siddhi, Virtue: a goodness so natural it needs no rules, guiding others simply by the example of how you live.

Each of the six lines colours Gate 7 differently
Every gate is read through one of six lines, depending on where the planet sat in it. The line is the how of the gate’s what.

Gate 7 forms one channel, with Gate 31
