Gate 2 and Gene Key 2: The Receptive
Gate 2 is the Receptive, a gate in the G centre on the Individual circuit. As Gene Key 2, it runs from the Shadow of Dislocation, through the Gift of Orientation, to the Siddhi of Unity. It is Hexagram 2 of the I Ching. The Sun passes through it each year from about May 4 to May 9.

Gate 2 is about direction and the capacity to receive guidance from inner knowing
In Human Design, Gate 2 sits in the G centre, in the Knowing stream of the Individual circuit. Individual circuitry carries mutation. It exists to bring something genuinely new, which is why it is felt as different rather than useful, and why its timing cannot be scheduled.
Lived consciously: Clear inner direction that knows where it's going. The person receives information from their core being and moves with certainty. Direction emerges from alignment with who they truly are.
Lived unconsciously: Seeking direction from external sources. Lost without validation of the path. Direction becomes conditional on others' approval, leading to confusion and indecision.
The keywords the tradition gives it: direction, inner knowing, receptivity, certainty and authentic path.
Gene Key 2 moves from Dislocation to Unity
The question this key keeps asking: “Where do I belong? Am I going the wrong way? What is the plan?”
The Shadow, Dislocation. You feel slightly out of place, even when you are in the right one. So you look for a map: the five-year plan, the right adviser, whatever everyone else seems to be doing. You push in some direction because standing still feels like failing, and the people close to you follow detours you never chose.
The Gift, Orientation. When you stop trying to see the whole route and take the next step that feels right in your body, you find you were never as lost as you thought. That is Orientation: an inner compass that works one step at a time, and only when you let it lead.
The Siddhi, Unity: realising you were never separate from the whole, so there’s no right direction to find and nowhere to get to; you’re already home.
