The short answer: Both begin with the planetary positions at your birth. Astrology reads them by sign, house and aspect, as a symbolic language for character, relationships and change. Gene Keys converts them into the 64 keys it shares with Human Design and picks a handful for a profile you live with over time, each key read from Shadow (where you get stuck) to Gift (the way out) to Siddhi (where it leads). Common questions
Is Gene Keys a form of astrology?
No. It uses planetary positions, as astrology does, but reads them through 64 keys drawn from the same archetypes as the I Ching and Human Design, not through signs and houses.
Why does my Gene Keys profile need a birth time?
Positions move through the day, the Moon fastest, so a different time can change a key or a line. Enter the most reliable time you have.
Which should I start with?
Astrology if you want the big map of your chart. Gene Keys if you want a few themes to chew on over time. You don’t need one to do the other.
