What is my personal feng shui?

Feng shui is the Chinese practice of arranging space so that energy, called qi, moves through it well. Its general principles are widely known: clear what is cluttered, give the bed a solid wall, keep the entrance open and welcoming. Personal feng shui adds a further layer. Your birth details give you a personal number, the kua number, and that number gives you four directions that support you and four that work against you. Which way you sleep, sit and work matters, and it differs from one person to the next.

The fuller answer

Most feng shui is about the room. Personal feng shui is about the person in it, and which way they face.

Combined with the general principles, this produces feng shui that fits a particular person. The same bedroom can restore one person and quietly tire another, because one of them faces a draining direction every night. Most people never hear this part. They follow every general rule and still feel unsettled at their desk.

Your kua number places you in one of two groups, each with its own four good directions.

The kua number comes from your birth year and, traditionally, whether you were born male or female.

It places you in the East group or the West group.

Each group shares four favourable directions, though each kua number ranks them differently: one for success, one for health, one for relationships, and one for growth and calm.

The remaining four are not cursed. They are less supportive for you.

The weakest of them is worth avoiding for what you do daily, such as sleeping and working.

Space shapes the person who lives in it.

You already know this, even without the word for it.

Some rooms sharpen you. Some make you sleepy. Some make you argue.

Feng shui is a very old and very practical system for understanding why, and for adjusting it.

Much of it is sound common sense: light, flow, clear paths, a solid wall behind you as you work.

Some of it is more specific, like directions and elements. Both are easier to change than most people expect.

You have a personal element, and your home can feed it or drain it.

Feng shui uses five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water.

You carry a personal element. Every space carries a balance of the five too, through colour, material and shape.

When a space feeds your element, it supports you.

When it drains your element, you feel tired there without knowing why.

The remedies are often small: a colour, a material, a plant in the right place.

A look inside

Sample report · a fictional reader

You belong to the West group. For about six years, you have been sleeping in the right room, facing the wrong way.

Your directions

Your strongest direction for success is north-west. Your best for health is south-west. Your calmest is west. At present, your bed points your head east, one of your least supportive directions. That may go some way to explaining why you wake feeling as though the day has already been long. Not everything is the bed. Some of it is.

Your desk

You work facing a wall with the door behind you. A nervous system cannot settle when it cannot see who is entering, so part of your attention stays on guard all day. Turn the desk so the door is in view, ideally facing north-west. The change tends to show itself as a tension you had not noticed, finally releasing.

The first change

If you change one thing, move the bed. Head toward the south-west if the room allows, a solid wall behind you, nothing stored beneath. It costs nothing and takes twenty minutes. Give it two weeks before deciding whether it matters.

How Soul Cartography reads it

Personal feng shui is usually handed out as a table of directions and nothing more. Your report turns it into something you can act on in an afternoon: where the bed goes, which way the desk faces, and what to change first if you change nothing else.

It is also read alongside the rest of your map, so the guidance for your space fits the person who lives in it, not only the year they were born.

Then it is written for you, in a real voice, not from a template. No sun-sign paragraphs. No definitions you could find on the first page of a search. Every line has to be true for your chart and nobody else's.

The method is not published, the same way a good doctor does not hand you the textbook. What can be said is this: every system is one lens on you, and none of them is read alone. Where they line up, the report says so. Where they pull apart, it says that too, because that is often the part you recognise first.

Questions people ask

Is this just astrology?

No. Astrology is one voice in the room. It is not the whole room. Soul Cartography reads you through several systems at once: astrology in more than one zodiac, Human Design, Gene Keys, Cardology, numerology and more. Each one sees you from a different angle. On its own, any one of them can be general enough to fit almost anyone. Read together, something changes. When systems that have nothing to do with each other point at the same pattern, it stops being a horoscope. It becomes a description of you. Where they line up, that is worth noticing. Where they disagree, the report says so, because that tension is usually the most recognisable part of a person. Neither is thrown away. How the systems are weighed and combined stays ours. What you receive is the picture they make together.

Do I need my birth time?

No. Personal feng shui works from your date of birth. No time and no place are needed.

Why does feng shui ask whether I was born male or female?

The traditional kua calculation differs for men and women. If that question does not fit you, say so, and your report will show both sets of directions and help you find which feels right in practice.
