Money & work

How you're built to earn, the work that drains you, and what keeps getting in the way.

The short answers

How am I designed to make money?

There is no single right way to make money, though most money advice quietly assumes there is. Push harder. Be more visible. Send the fifty cold emails. For some people that is exactly right. For others it is the quickest route to exhaustion, because their energy works best when it responds to what arrives, or when it builds slowly and lets reputation do the selling.

Why does work drain me, and what work actually suits me?

Work drains people for two different reasons, and each needs a different response. The first is content: the work does not use what you are good at or care about. The second is mechanics: the work is fine, but the pace, the setting, the way decisions are made or the amount of pushing it requires is wrong for how your energy runs. People often change jobs to solve a mechanics problem, and find the new job feels the same within six months.
