What does my Human Design profile mean?
A Human Design profile is made of two numbers, such as 1/3, 5/1 or 6/2. Each number is a line from one to six, and each line describes a role. Line 1 is the Investigator, who needs solid foundations. Line 2 is the Hermit, naturally gifted and in need of time alone. Line 3 is the Martyr, or Experimenter, who learns by trial and error. Line 4 is the Opportunist, whose life moves through their network. Line 5 is the Heretic, onto whom others project their hopes. Line 6 is the Role Model, who lives in three distinct phases.

The fuller answer
Two numbers separated by a slash. Together they describe, with some precision, how you learn and how other people see you.
The first number is the conscious side, the part of yourself you know and identify with. The second is unconscious, the part others often see before you do. Together they describe the role you play in the world: how you learn, how you connect, and the part people keep casting you in, whether or not you auditioned.
Your profile describes how you are designed to learn and connect.
Profiles are where many moments of recognition live. Why you cannot begin anything without researching it thoroughly (line 1). Why people keep calling you out when you want to be left alone (line 2). Why so much of what you know came from getting it wrong first (line 3). Why every good thing in your life arrived through someone you already knew (line 4).
None of these are flaws.
They are how you are designed to learn and connect. Most of the frustration comes from trying to do it another person's way.
Your two lines often pull in different directions, and that tension is the shape of your life.
A 2/4 wants solitude and keeps being called out by their network. A 3/5 learns by trial and error and is projected upon as the one with all the answers. A 6/2 wants to stand back and observe, while others keep drawing them into the room.
Lived unconsciously, the tension feels like being misunderstood. Lived consciously, it becomes range.
Knowing which part is yours and which is projection saves an enormous amount of energy.
Much relationship friction is really profile friction.
Profiles show up clearly in how people connect. Line 1 needs to know you before trusting you. Line 2 needs space, and needs to be called out of it by the right person. Line 4 builds through friendship first. Line 5 carries other people's expectations into every first meeting. Line 6 watches from a distance before committing.
Two people meeting the world in different ways can each be convinced the other is doing it wrong.
Knowing your own profile does not resolve that overnight. It makes it far less personal.
What your report covers
- Your profile in plain English: the role you play and how you learn
- Your conscious line, the part you know, and your unconscious line, the part others see first
- Where the two pull against each other, and what that tension is for
- The projections and expectations others place on you, and which to set down
- How to learn, connect and rest in a way that suits your profile
A look inside
Sample report · a fictional reader
People keep handing you the role of the one who knows what they are doing. You learned all of it by getting it wrong first. Both are true.
You learn by trying, failing and adjusting.
Trying, breaking, adjusting, trying again. It is untidy and it is fast, and it gives you a kind of knowledge no book provides. You may have spent years embarrassed by the process. Every mistake felt like evidence you were not good enough. It was the method. You were not failing. You were doing the research.
Others project an answer onto you before you have said a word.
People look at you and see the fixer: the one who will know what to do. When you deliver, you are celebrated. When you do not, the fall is steep and public. The projection was never yours. Lived unconsciously, you exhaust yourself trying to live up to it. Lived consciously, you choose when to step into it and when to step out.
The profile works for you once the experimenting is visible.
Before you try something, tell people, “I'm testing this, it may not work.” It lifts the weight of the projection and lets your mistakes become part of the story rather than the end of it. Notice how much lighter you feel when you stop pretending you already knew.
How Soul Cartography reads it
A profile is a role, not a rating. It describes how you meet the world and how the world keeps meeting you, which is why it is often where the gap lives between how you see yourself and how others see you.
Both sides of the profile, and the tension between them, are held within your whole design. They are then checked against your other systems, which tend to describe the same role in a different language.
Then it is written for you, in a real voice, not from a template. No sun-sign paragraphs. No definitions you could find on the first page of a search. Every line has to be true for your chart and nobody else's.
The method is not published, the same way a good doctor does not hand you the textbook. What can be said is this: every system is one lens on you, and none of them is read alone. Where they line up, the report says so. Where they pull apart, it says that too, because that is often the part you recognise first.
Questions people ask
Which line matters more, the first or the second?
Neither. The first is the side you are conscious of. The second is the side others often notice first. What matters is how they work together, and especially where they do not.
I'm a 6. What's this about three phases?
Line 6 tends to live in three stages: an early experimental phase, a middle phase of stepping back and observing, and a later phase of becoming the role model. The middle phase can feel like losing your edge. It is not. It is observation. The report describes what that means for you.
Do I need my exact birth time?
It helps. Some of what is read moves every few minutes, so the closer your time, the sharper the report. If you only know it roughly, use your best guess and the report will say which parts lean on it. If you don't know it at all, you still get a real report. It simply won't claim to know what it can't.
How do I get my report?
By email, as a private link, within 24 hours. It is yours to keep. One purchase, no subscription. Most people come back to it later, often right after the thing it describes happens again.
