The Heart (Ego) Centre in Human Design: Defined and Open
Will, worth and commitment. The Heart is the willpower to make and keep a promise, and the sense of what you are worth. Defined, you have consistent access to willpower. Open or undefined, willpower is not consistently available to you, and it is not meant to be. It holds 4 gates and links to the heart.

A defined Heart (Ego) centre is a consistent source
You have consistent access to willpower. You can commit and follow through, and your word carries weight. Rest is part of keeping it.
The gift: Reliable willpower, and commitments others can count on.
An open Heart (Ego) centre takes in and amplifies
Willpower is not consistently available to you, and it is not meant to be. There is nothing to prove. The cost is promising more than your will can sustain in order to feel worthy.
The wisdom it can grow: Knowing that worth is not earned through effort. Promising only what you genuinely want to give.
The conditioning to notice: Pressure to prove your worth, to push through on willpower, and to commit in order to be valued.
The not-self question: “Am I still trying to prove my worth?”
